Who They Are and What They Do…

The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) could encompass any number of various organizations. Generally, Area Agencies on Aging are regional non-profit organizations that are focused on senior advocacy services for a specific geographic area. Often limited to county lines, these agencies are vital parts of the aging services network in the state, working with planning agencies, advocacy groups, support groups, and private-sector organizations. Area Agencies on Aging provide information to senior citizens, their caregivers and families, and senior advocates. These agencies have community calendars of events, service directories, volunteer groups, and councils of leadership which run the agency and are usually in need of sponsors. Their common mission is to ensure quality of services provided to elders, advocate on senior issues, provide a network of information and leadership in the local community, and develop resources and services available to seniors in their area. They strive to understand the needs and desires of local seniors and to raise community awareness of these needs.
